The awards celebrate a range of desserts including cakes, biscuits and pastries made by cafes, tearooms, restaurants and home bakers throughout Scotland.

Assessors have visited almost 800 premises from Shetland to Biggar, aiming to find the tastiest tarts, springiest sponges and magnificent meringues.

Each finalist was initially nominated on-line and had to go through a vigorous taste test to ensure they are masters of a good bake.

After wowing the assessors with their cakes, Biggar Flavour beat off competition from 25 other nominated outlets to secure their place at the glittering final held in Marr Hall, Renfrewshire on September 28.

The 2014 judging panel is comprised of cookery writer Sue Lawrence, Cecilia Young, Chairperson of British Sugarcraft Guild of Scotland and Northern Ireland, and Christina Conte, a Los Angeles based food blogger, originally from Glasgow.

Melanie Andrews, The Scottish Baking Awards Director and Founder, said: “Each year I’m more and more impressed by the talent and dedication of people across Scotland to create mouth-watering treats and puddings.

Baking has been big for a number of years now but this year the standard has been the highest of all and proves that we have a thriving and exciting baking scene.

The cafes, tearooms, restaurants, supermarkets and home bakers that are through to our final have all shown creativity, exceptional technical skills and a passion for the art of baking.

We wish Biggar Flavour well on the night and hope they continue to impress customers with their wonderful cooking.”
