Biggar Big Band is commemorating VE Day by hosting two evenings of entertainment to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two.

On Friday, May 8, at 7.30pm, the band will be performing at the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles and the following night at the same time they will play at Biggar’s Municipal Hall.

To get into the 1940s spirit guests are asked to dress for the period - and there will be a prize for the best dressed couple.

Both events, featuring singers Flora Munro and Anthony Bowers, will include a raffle as well as an auction of two very limited edition prints depicting VE Day and the Battle of Britain. Make sure you bring your wallets complete with 2015 currency!

In keeping with the theme of the commemoration, a specially-written piece briefly recounting and crystalising the momentous events of 1945 as well as the sacrifice made by so many to achieve peace in Europe, will be narrated.

Tickets for the Peebles event cost £10 each and can be obtained via the Eastgate Theatre Box Office. Tickets for the event in Biggar cost £20 each but include 'rations’ - a little more lavish than experienced in 1945 - comprising allotment soup, beef stew and spotted dick. Tickets can be obtained from various outlets in Biggar including Merry & Bright, The Crown, The Corn Exchange or Hamiltons.

Proceeds will be shared equally between the band to and the Royal British Legion (Scotland).
