SCOTTISH Borders Council is seeking the public's view on how to tackle discrimination and to reduce inequality across the region.

The consultation will run until February 27, with a series of questions on what changes should be made.

Council bosses say they are "committed" to improving equality and diversity in the Borders and say the have "made significant steps forward" in the past few years.

Councillor John Greenwell, SBC’s Champion for Equality and Diversity, told us: "Since the establishment of our first Equality Mainstreaming Report in 2013 the Council has made significant steps forward in meeting the duties set out in the Equality Act 2010, and is committed to building on this in the forthcoming years to be covered by the next report."

An SBC spokesperson added: "The Council is committed to tackling discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and promoting good relations, both within the workforce and the wider community.

"Mainstreaming equality is the process by which the Council works towards achieving this as an organisation.

"SBC’s current Equality Mainstreaming Report is due for renewal next year, so this consultation is the first step in producing a new version which will set out goals for the period up until 2021."
