SCOTTISH Borders Council is to host two information sessions this month for people considering standing for election as a councillor.

The two events will be held to look at the role of an elected member and the operation of the local authority.

And those who are considering standing in the local election in May are invited to go along.

The first session takes place on Tuesday, February 21 and will focus on what councillors do; and the second session on Tuesday, February 28 will provide information on the practical reality of life as a councillor.

Returning Officer Tracey Logan said: "The role of a councillor is a rewarding but also demanding one. Anyone successfully elected has the privilege of representing their local community and being involved in decisions which can make a difference to people’s lives.

"These sessions will offer plenty information to those considering standing in this year’s election, including a chance to hear from current elected members on the realities of being a councillor."

Both events run from 6pm to 8.30pm in Council Headquarters, Newtown St Boswells, with coffee and sandwiches provided.

To register for these sessions, email elections@scotborders.gov.uk or phone Jenny Wilkinson, Clerk to the Council, on 01835 825004.
