PEEBLES Community Council hosted an election hustings in the Burgh Hall Peebles last Thursday evening.
More than 200 people heard the four candidates, Douglas Beattie, Labour; John Ferry, Lib Dems; Mairi McAllan, SNP and David Mundell, Conservative, talk about their priorities and respond to questions from the floor.
The meeting was chaired by Reverend Calum MacDougall and the questions ranged from economics and poverty to social care, farming policy and Trident.
The liveliest audience response was to a question about the arms trade and the candidates’ views on our government’s selling of arms to Saudi Arabia.
