A PEEBLES events business has landed a £10,000 windfall for its next mountain bike event.

Hillside Outside has welcomed news that TweedLove’s flagship mountain bike event for 2018, the Whyte Bikes British Enduro Championships will receive £10,000 from EventScotland, and further support from Scottish Borders Council.

The race is set to be the most prestigious MTB event TweedLove has hosted in recent years.

The news comes as EventScotland has released details of just 12 events and festivals across Scotland that are to receive a share of £100,000 to help Scottish events develop and grow.

Paul Bush OBE, director of events said: “We are delighted to be funding these 12 amazing events and festivals from the latest round of EventScotland’s National Programme Fund.

“Taking place across 10 local authorities between May and October, these events and festivals will bring real impact by attracting visitors and driving economic impact in their local area.”

The British Championship race is the pinnacle event on the UK Enduro mountain biking calendar and will bring with it riders from across the globe and the pro riders from all the big mountain bike brands.

Entries for the race are already nearly sold-out with only a handful of places left up for grabs. Race director Neil Dalgleish said: “The British Championships is the biggest enduro race in the UK and the biggest race to come to the Tweed Valley for years.

“To have been recognised and awarded support by EventScotland and Scottish Borders Council is fantastic news and it will go a long way in promoting the Tweed Valley as the best riding location in Scotland and the whole of the UK.”

The BEMBA British championship race will take place on the TweedLove festival weekend between June 8-10, alongside many other events including the Tweed on the Green expo, a huge bike demo, other mountain, road and adventure cycling events, and a programme of supporting activity both on and off the bike.

Most of TweedLove’s 2018 events are now on sale via their website but some events, including the first race of the year the Whyte Vallelujah enduro, have already sold out.
