LOYAL ScotRail customers are set to bank £89 each as part of a £1million reward fund.

More than 11,000 ScotRail customers with a live smartcard season ticket on March 21 qualified for a share of £1million. The money was the final part of the Scottish Government’s £3million fares fund to reward loyal customers.

The smartcard allows ticketless travel, meaning customers don’t have to buy paper tickets or wait in ticket queues when travelling. New figures published by ScotRail reveal that the number of journeys using the smartcard has doubled to 180,000 per week in the past year.

ScotRail chief operating officer Angus Thom said: “We’re delighted to be able to give our loyal Smartcard customers £89 each. It’s our way of saying thank you.

“All our eligible customers have to do is make an additional purchase between now and 30 June 2018 to claim their share of the £1million through their MyScotRail account.

“We’re building the best railway Scotland has ever had, and rewarding our loyal customers is an important part of that.”

Humza Yousaf, Scottish Government minster for transport and the islands said: “I’m delighted that people will now start to benefit from the final stage of the £3 million Scottish Government fares initiative.

“I would actively encourage eligible passengers to now claim their share, and for even more passengers to sign up for a Smartcard – helping to modernise the way Scotland travels now and into the future.”

Eligible customers have until June 30 to claim their share online by making an additional purchase through their MyScotRail account. Their £89 share will be credited to their debit or credit card within 14 days.
