With just a week to go before Scotland’s independence referendum an exclusive opinion poll commissioned for ITV Border’s political programme Representing Border, and conducted by ComRes, suggests two thirds of decided voters in the South of Scotland still intend to vote no in the independence referendum.

In the third survey conducted by ComRes for ITV Border focusing solely on the attitudes of voters in the south of Scotland, 27 per cent of voters indicated they intend to vote yes. 56 per cent said they will vote no, and 17 per cent remain undecided.

When don’t knows are excluded 33 per cent of South of Scotland voters said they intend to vote yes and 67 per cent said they will vote no.

Since the last ComRes/ITV Border Poll in June there has been a relatively small swing of three points towards the Yes campaign - a change within the margin of error.

The poll was conducted for ITV Border by ComRes and polled 1,000 adults aged 16 and over in the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway council areas by telephone between September 3 and 9.

Asked the question voters will be asked next Thursday, ‘should Scotland be an independent country?’ of those who said they were likely to vote: 27 per cent of South of Scotland voters said they'd vote yes (June 26%, January 24%).

56 per cent of South of Scotland voters said they'd vote no (June 61%, January 59%).

16 per cent said they didn't know how they'd vote (June 13%, January 17%) A spokesman for ITV Border told us: "A Representing Border campaign special, presented by ITV Border’s Political Editor Peter MacMahon, will have full details and analysis of the results."

Representing Border is broadcast on Freeview in the South of Scotland at 11.35pm tonight ( Thursday).
