THE latest chapter in the region’s great garden waste saga will be written tomorrow.
A large public turnout is expected to witness Scottish Borders Council’s petitions committee consider a bid to have kerbside green bin collections – scrapped for 38,000 households in March – reinstated.
The seven-strong committee will hear a presentation from former councillor Andrew Farquhar whose petition, launched in August, has been endorsed by 7,675 signatures.
A submission will also be made on behalf of the council by waste manager Ross Sharp-Dent.
It is by far the biggest petition ever considered by the committee which was formed two years ago.
The Border Telegraph has been told the most likely outcome is that the committee, which has no decision-making powers, will refer the matter, without a specific recommendation, to the full council which is due to meet on Thursday, October 30.
Today's meeting will take place in SBC’s Newtown headquarters at 10am.
