BORDERS Sport and Leisure is working together with the Volunteer Centre Borders to recruit sports volunteers. The organisation is launching a new campaign seeking people willing to play an active part in leading an extensive programme of sporting opportunities across the region and also events, such as the increasingly popular Borders Triathlon Series.

New guides have been created for clubs and individuals offering advice on how to get involved, suggestions for clubs on volunteer polices, role descriptions and other information to assist with the recruitment and management of volunteers.

Ewan Jackson, chief executive of Borders Sport and Leisure, said: “Volunteers are the heartbeat of community sport and this campaign is a great opportunity for people in the Borders who may be interested in volunteering but are unsure how to go about getting involved. We are keen to hear from anyone who is willing to give up some of their free time to support the many sporting clubs, activities and events in the region.” Borders Sport and Leisure is keen to recruit volunteers throughout the area but is particularly hopefully of gaining more support for activities in Eyemouth and Galashiels.

Graeme Murdoch, Borders Sport and Leisure Active Schools manager, added: “Our volunteer recruitment campaign is now underway and will continue until the end of March. We have developed resource guides to support the campaign and I would urge any interested people to get in touch. We will ensure that the relevant training and mentoring is provided and that volunteering in sport becomes both an enjoyable and rewarding experience for them.” For more information on becoming a sports volunteer please contact Graeme Murdoch on email gmurdoch@bslt.org.uk or phone 01896 661166.
