A STRONG team spirit helped young footballers achieve the right result in a fundraising event.

More than 30 players from the P1 and P2 teams of Peebles Football Club got together for the bag packing day in the town’s Tesco store in Edinburgh Road.

Their efforts were rewarded as they netted a fantastic total of £605.75 thanks to the generosity of Peebles shoppers The money will be used towards the purchase of new goal posts for the club to use across all age groups.

The first bag packers arrived at the supermarket to be greeted by a fire alarm evacuation which was swiftly dealt with by the staff and emergency services.

The young bag packers manned the checkout queues for six hours and the P1s offered Christmas chocolate to the shoppers after their bags were filled.

“Pauline Young and the Tesco team were very professional and ensured the shoppers were correctly looked after by our players and parents who greeted everyone with a friendly smile,” said fundraising lead Max Sykes.

“Peebles Football Club is working together to create a strong team environment where everyone is included and can contribute to the club’s success.

“The bag packing was a great activity for all of us to work together to raise vital funds - we were stronger together.

“We would like to thank all the players, parents and guardians for contributing their time in making the Tesco “Going for Goals” the most successful bag packing event the club has run.

“We would also like to thank the generous shoppers for supporting us and hope to see our teams win for Peebles during the season and well into 2015.

A special thanks goes to Lynn McRobert, Colin Moffat and David Graham for always going the extra mile in supporting our efforts and creating a winning spirit that is stronger together.”
