FIVE of the finest local bands are joining forces to present a Tribute Concert to Peebles music man Daniel T Ward.

Dan, who died in December 2012 at the age of 74, was renowned as a tutor of the young musicians.

He was one of the main influences behind the growing youth bands of the Peebles Burgh Silver Band and they will end the show at the Eastgate Theatre, Peebles on Friday, May 16, at 7.30pm.

Dan was a plasterer, soldier, school teacher, artist, rugby player and coach, raconteur and, most importantly, a talented musician with strong connections to each of the bands in the show. The 20-strong Borders Big Band will open the concert and will perform a repertoire that includes tracks by Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman.

Dan’s long involvement in teaching young players will also be represented by Peebles Development Band and Junior Band and the confidence oozing from these players is Dan’s continuing legacy.

ICC Saxophone Ensemble is a 14-piece band who perform light classics on the whole range of saxophones from sopranino to bass.

Formed by Dan, Peebles Concert Band will play selections from musicals, polkas, classics and modern popular arrangements.

All profits from this concert go to the Margaret Kerr Unit at Borders General Hospital. Tickets cost £8 (schoolchildren £4) and are available from the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles.
