FOLLOWING the roaring success of the adventures on a ‘South Pacific’ island, Innerleithen Opera will set sail aboard the S.S. American for Cole Porter’s popular hit ‘Anything Goes’ due to be staged in the Memorial Hall at the end of March next year.

New and returning members will be made most welcome to the first rehearsal on Wednesday, September 17 in the Free Library Hall, Buccleuch Street, Innerleithen at 7.30pm.

There will be a sing through of the musical numbers which include Anything Goes, Let’s Misbehave and It’s De-Lovely. Afterwards there will be a chance to meet the production team and members of the company over a glass of wine and some nibbles.

The show is set aboard the ocean liner S.S. American, where nightclub singer turned evangelist Reno Sweeney is en-route from New York to England. Her friend Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but Hope is engaged to wealthy aristocrat, Sir Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy number 13, Moonface Martin, and his sidekick-in-crime. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

The show was previously produced on the Innerleithen stage in 1997 and the all singing and dancing show was a big hit with audience and cast alike.
