CALLS have been made for extra safety measures on the A72.
They came during the public forum at the Innerleithen Community Council meeting on Monday.
The member of the public said: “While I commend the introduction of the 40mph section preceding the 30mph section on the A72, there are several observations and suggestions regarding improved signage and additional measures which could be taken to enhance safety.”
Councillor Stuart Bell (SNP) confirmed that the matter had previously been extensively discussed and noted that police keep reports of accidents and review road safety at regular intervals.
Cllr Bell added that a report was due in on the recent fatality at Walkerburn which had been particularly difficult and that it would be premature to comment further.
Councillor Shona Haslam (Cons) said that the comments will be passed on to the Roads Team for checking and comment.
