ALPACAS from Innerleithen caught the eye of judges at a national show recently.

More than 600 of the furry friends from all over the UK attended the British Alpaca Society National Show in Telford on March 25 an 26.

These included several from Tweeddale’s Velvet Hall Alpacas.

Despite only having a herd of 30 – small in comparison to their competitors, some of whom have over 800 – the Velvet Hall team came back home with several rosettes.

Stuart Ramsay said: “We were delighted on the Saturday when Velvet Hall Border Reiver (junior white male) and Velvet Hall Corryvreckan (intermediate grey female) were both awarded third place in class. Even if that’s all we could achieve over the weekend, we would have considered it to be a successful show.

“On the Sunday Velvet Hall Hejira (adult light female) was awarded a first in class and we thought that’s it, we can go home now, we can’t do better than that.

“Our delight was to be superseded when Velvet Hall Storm Surge, our junior grey male, was awarded first in class and then went on to be awarded champion grey male.

“This makes him one of the best grey males in the UK, and certainly made the six hour drive home seem effortless.”
