AN Innerleithen man has been fined following bother in a caravan park bar.

Angered by a barman clearing away his bottle of beer, Christopher Graham started shouting and throwing furniture about.

The 21-year-old of Tweedside Caravan Park, Montgomery Street, Innerleithen, appeared from custody and admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Tow Bar, Tweedside Caravan Park, on July 13.

Prosecutor Tess Bradley said the caravan park was owned by the accused’s family, and his parents were in the bar with him around 1.15am.

“He had been there drinking most of the evening, and became verbally aggressive towards his father, shouting and swearing, banging on top of the bar, and throwing chairs about,” explained Ms Bradley.

Police attended and found Graham nearby.

He told officers, “I would really like to apologise.” Solicitor Ross Dow, defending, said his client was ashamed of his behaviour.

“He feels he has really disappointed his parents and let them down,” explained Mr Dow.

“He works as a groundsman at the caravan park,” he added.

“He had been drinking and got carried away after the barman cleared away a bottle of beer.” Sheriff John Halley fined Graham £333.33, reduced from £500 for his early plea.

“This is completely unacceptable behaviour and will not be tolerated,” he told the accused.

“You are 21 years old and need to grow up,” he continued, “and drink is no excuse.”
