DEVELOPERS are becoming frustrated over delays to the start of work at the Caerlee Mills site in Innerleithen.

The town’s community council was told this week that discussions were still taking place between Scottish Borders Council and other bodies over the best way forward for the project.

The owners of the site, which has lain dormant since the mill ceased trading in April last year, have made proposals for a brewery or hotel alongside housing.

Community council member Brian McCrow said: “There is a blockage at the moment and we need to unblock it. The developer is keen to get things moving and is concerned at the lack of progress that is being made.” Tweeddale councillor Stuart Bell assured Mr McCrow that SBC’s economic development department was happy that meetings were set up to progress the project and that it was usual for them to be involved at an early stage. Councillor Bell added: “SBC welcomes the support of both the Community Council and of the Community Trust for this important project for the town.”
