A YOUTH club dogged by problems is set for a new lease of life by merging with an organisation in a neighbouring town.

Innerleithen’s club is poised to join forces with the successful Tweeddale Youth Action group based in Peebles.

It will open again this month - for one night initially - at its new home in the town’s Memorial Hall.

Innerleithen community councillor Brian McCrow revealed that problems establishing a base had been resolved with the club taking up a one-year lease to use the Memorial Hall.

“Everything is signed now and we are putting up posters to publicise the club,” he said.

The lease is for a limited time at present because of uncertainty over whether the Memorial Hall comes under Common Good funding.

The youth club in Innerleithen has been beset by financial problems and has struggled to find a permanent home.

It was forced to relocate in May after its previous home, the Church of Scotland hall in Leithen Road, was sold.

Shortly afterwards bosses decided to temporarily shut the youth club after a clash between rival youths when it used the community centre at St Ronan’s School. The new manager of TYA, Dave Hodson, will oversee the operation of the Innerleithen youth club.
