ART lovers and environmentalists across the Borders are being invited to go on a journey of discovery in Peebles.

Portrayed by award-winning artist, Ade Adesina, 'Just Before the Light' is a visual commentary of prints by the Aberdeen based Nigerian, who's work is inspired by the effect of the human footprint on our planet.

A traditional printmaker, painted and sculptor, Adesina combines his African cultural roots with British culture to get people thinking about global ecology.

“Our world is full of wonderful landscapes and I want to highlight the continual damage caused through deforestation, the politics of energy consumption, and endangered wild species,” Ade explained.

The exhibition is part of a varied programme organised by local charity Live Borders.

Elizabeth Hume, Visual Arts Office for the 2016 Museum & Gallery programme said: “It’s a unique exhibition which demonstrates the artist’s keen eye for detail and amazing draughtsmanship in the execution of large scale linocuts and etchings."

Adesina has won many prestigious prizes including one from the Royal Academy Summer Show, London in 2015. He has been an Artist in Residence at the Glasgow Print Studio, the Highland Print Studio in Inverness and currently is Artist in Residence at Eton College, Windsor.

In 2014 he was selected as one of the 'Generation' artists – a nationwide event celebrating the best art in Scotland over the past 25 years. He graduated from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen in 2012.

The exhibition, 'Just Before the Light' is currently showing at The Gallery, Tweeddale Museum, Chambers Institution, High Street, Peebles.

It runs until Saturday, October 15. The Gallery is open Monday to Friday, 10.30am-12.30pm and on Saturdays, 9.30am-12.30pm.
