ORGANISERS have hailed the first ever Tweed Valley Tunnel Run a success.
Runners taking part could choose between two different routes of 10K or 20K, both taking in the Peeblesshire scenery throughout.

The sell-out event attracted runners from across the UK flocking to the hills and tunnels of Peeblesshire.

Both routes covered various hills, rivers, plus the disused railway tunnel which was especially illuminated for the event.

The run was supported by volunteers, stationed along the route to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Now the run is over, planning has already begun ahead of next year’s event.
It is hoped an additional ‘tunnel walk’ will be added next year for those who enjoy a slower pace.

Fiona Dalgliesh, organiser for the Tweed Valley Tunnel Run said: “It was a stunning day with 450 people taking part. We’ve had great feedback from folk who took part, who’ve very much enjoyed it.

“A particular part which people loved was the old train tunnel lit up. The lighting was spectacular and provided a great contrast from the vibrant colours outside, then running through the dark tunnel and back out into countryside.

“Despite little advertising of the event, places sold out fast and we’ve had a tremendous turnout for our first year.

“We hope to build on this success for next year.”

Peebles runners triumphed at the run, with Ruth McKean winning the 10K Female 40+ in 40.12 and Melanie Queen finished first 10K Female under 40s in a time of 46.54.

Neil Arnott won the 10K Male 40+ in a time of 42.06, and for the 10K under 40s, Ruben Villalain broke the tape in 43.56.

For the 20K run, Sarah Keen came first for the Female 40+ in 1.48.08.
Amy Alcorn won the Female under 40 category in 1.40.50.

Meanwhile, Colin Williams finished first in the Mens 40+ in a time of 1.23.50, and Owain Williams won the Mens under 40 20K in 1.24.29.
