PEEBLES Outdoor Film Festival is calling on budding filmmakers to submit their videos for next year's event.

Following the success of the 2016 Outdoor Shorts competition in January, organisers have set a date for the three-day show, which will celebrate the work of local producers.

The festival will start on January 27 and filmmakers of all ages can get involved by submitting their outdoor-themed films, either documentary or fictional work, of no more than five minutes duration that demonstrate creativity, originality and story-telling skill.

Films can detail a particular adventure, journey, sport, personal experience, or be a portrait of a particular person or place.

But all must capture the magic and natural beauty of being outdoors.

The competition will have two categories, under 18 and open, with prizes awarded in each.

Winners of the 2017 Outdoor Shorts competition will be chosen both by a panel of expert judges and by public vote during the festival, when a viewing facility will be set up for film buffs to watch all shortlisted films.

The selected entrants will be invited to attend the final short film session of the festival on January 29, when the prize winners will be announced and their films shown on the big screen at the Eastgate.

The deadline for submission is noon on January, 9 2017.

Rich Rowe, from the festival, said: "Our 2016 Outdoor Shorts competition saw a wonderful range of films from far and wide, with the judges extremely impressed by the quality of the work submitted.

"As the competition grows in stature, we anticipate another rich and varied selection of submissions for the 2017 festival."

The 2016 Outdoor Shorts competition saw 'A Year in the Life of Stramash' collect the judge’s top prize, while the wonderfully inventive short film 'Extreme Tennis: Anywhere, Anyway' won the public vote during the course of the festival.
