PROPERTIES across Peebles may have their water supplies switched off today while maintenance works are carried out across the town.

Residents affected have received a letter in the post from Scottish Water informing them that operatives are in the area to carry out works to connect a new water main to the existing system.

The letter states that water supplies may be switched off between 9am and 4pm today (Friday, June 16).

In the letter to affected residents, it states: "When we work on your water supply, we try to avoid dirt or grit getting into the pipes. After your water supply comes back on, the water may be discoloured.

"Before you use any water, you should turn on the cold water tap in your kitchen until the water runs clear.

"If you do not do this, your water fittings on appliances may get blocked or damaged.

"After the water supply comes back on you may find that the water tastes more strongly of chlorine. This is normal and will soon disappear.

"We are sorry for any problems this causes you."
