HARDWORKING Callants in Peebles are hoping to open a new chapter in their fundraising story.

Back in 2013 the Club produced one of its most successful projects, the Peebles and its People book.

The money raised from the sale of the highly popular publication funded the 'access for all' ramps at Hay Lodge Park's Fotheringham Bridge.

Almost 15 years on The Royal Burgh of Peebles Callants’ Club hopes to compile a sequel - Peebles and Its People volume 2.

Kenny Wilson, from the Callants' Club, told the Peeblesshire News: "The original Peebles and its People tried to capture a snapshot of the people who work in the huge variety of businesses, clubs and organisations in our town, ranging from shops and their staff, emergency services, tradesmen of all varieties, clubs and their members... the list goes on.

"This is now a historical document of life in Peebles at the start of the millennium and we believe now is the time to produce the next record for posterity."

Since its beginnings in 1935 The Royal Burgh of Peebles Callants’ Club has worked hard for the good of the town.

Recently the Callants used funds to plant daffodil bulbs and repair paths in Hay Lodge Park.

They also provided all competitors in the County Sports with an ice cream.

And they continue to provide financial support to the Beltane Festival as well as support local schools with grants.

The Callants are currently looking into the feasibility of two 'major' projects within the town.

And they hope to fund at least one of them with the proceeds from Peebles and Its People volume 2.

Mr Wilson added: "A letter inviting anyone who wishes to be included this time round will be arriving throughout the town soon.

"Once the responses have been gathered and collated, dates and times for the photographs will be arranged with considerable help from Peebles Photography Club."

Anyone who would like to be included in the new book, and hasn't received an invitation letter, should contact the Callants' Club on callantsecy@btinternet.com

It is hoped that Peebles and its People volume 2 will be published before the end of the year.
