THERE was plenty of grey matter used up last week as well as a few blonde moments at the annual Beltane Pub Quiz.

A total of 27 teams put on their thinking caps to take part.

And it was Peebles Rugby Club who used home advantage to claim the winner's trophy.

The event in the Club Rooms, which is organised by the Cornets' Lasses Association, has become a hugely popular part of the Beltane celebrations.

The Poker Boys finished second place following some tough rounds with the nameless 'Anonymous' team taking the bronze medals.

In a tie-break for fourth, Off the Back barbers were first on the buzzer, correctly knowing that retiring Beltane Committee secretaries, Allan Beveridge and David Turnbull, had won the Ex-Cornets’ horse race four times.

Association secretary Jill Nicholson told us: "The Cornets’ Lasses Association would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who helped make the night possible and all of those who support us throughout the year."

The presentations were completed with Three Blondes and a Wise One collecting the wooden spoons.
