CYCLISTS in Peebles are being urged to have their say about a potential location for a new cycle station.

To help promote their drive towards greater cycle use, the Scottish Government has made money available to local authorities to install cycle workstations.

The workstations will contain a stand for mounting cycles under repair and various tools that are required to conduct running repairs of cycles.

Scottish Borders Council has identified three potential sites in Peebles for the new cycle station. These are; the top of School Brae near to the shops, the corner of Tweed Brae and Eastgate next to the Post Office or Ushers Wynd on the Northgate.

The station is planned to be located within a old telephone box, which will be painted in 'Peebles red', matching the colours of the town's Beltane festival.

Peebles community councillor Leslie Turnbull said: "A suggestion was made by an officer of the council that the cycle station could be installed on Peebles High Street.

"The community council agreed that such a stand might be beneficial, but questions were raised at the latest meeting whether the High Street is a suitable location.

"As a result, we have launched an online consultation with Peebles residents to help to determine which site might be best suited for this initiative."
