FOLLOWING the success of her second book earlier this summer, a former Peebles High Teacher has chosen to re-release her first publication, which was first published in 2011.

Anne Derrick retired from the town's high school 10 years ago. Since then, she released her first novel 'What were we like?", which focused on the history of Peebles in the 1950s and 60s, including the area's memorable businesses, and the familiar faces in the town.

Her second book, 'Walking the Dog' which featured a range of walks across Peeblesshire, was published in June. Of the 200 copies printed of the second book, around 130 have been sold so far.

The 67-year-old has ordered 300 copies to be printed of the nostalgic first book, after a positive response from locals.

Anne told the Peeblesshire News: "Reaction to the second book has been brilliant. People have stopped me on the street and said how much they enjoyed my 'great wee book'.

"Of course, this is Peebles Old Parish Church's year of renewal and the 130th anniversary of the present building's opening and the profits from both books will go towards maintaining and enhancing the fabric of this iconic building.

"That was the main driving force behind my plan to reprint the first book, which sold 1,000 copies in 2011.

"Also, six years had passed since its initial release, so perhaps the time was ripe for a re-print. I'm sure exiled Peebleans would love it. Douglas Whitie had told me people were enquiring in his bookshop about the first book, so there was a market for it."

The both books cost £5 each and copies can be bought from Whitie’s Bookshop, Pennel’s Close, on Peebles High Street.
