A PEEBLES church is serving up a blether and a brew to help fund treatment for an 18-month-old girl with Cerebral Palsy.

St Andrews Leckie Parish Church by Tweed Green are hosting a coffee morning for Scarlett Moore, who has Cerebral Palsy and Global Developmental Delay.

The coffee morning will take place on Saturday, November 4 from 10am to 12noon, with a donation on entry. The fundraiser will also offer locals the chance to buy books, bric-a-brac, cakes and crafts.

In September, the Peeblesshire News reported on mum Laura Moore, and her struggles with fundraising for her wee one.

After a traumatic birth in March 2016 in Dubai, Scarlett was deprived of oxygen, leading to a number of seizures in her first 24 hours.

For the first two weeks of her life, Scarlett was placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the cities Al Zahra hospital.

After two years living in the Middle East, and discovering that their daughter needed lots of treatment, the family moved to Peebles in June 2016 to live with Laura's parents in the town.

Since last November, the family have been fundraising to reach £15,000 to pay for three years of APR treatment, a home-based therapy which is designed to improve Scarlett's eating, drinking and movement.

Laura told us: "Over the last month our fundraising is going really well. We had a few anonymous donations after the Peeblesshire News covered our story, plus some local companies reached out to me to say they could offer their services if we do a fundraising event - and we are hoping to arrange something for early next year.

"I have some cash donations which I will be paying in to her JustGiving page, so we have £5,000, which is amazing.

"We're thankful to our local church for organising the coffee morning for Scarlett, and will be there on the day to meet those who come along.

"In terms of the fundraising, we are just amazed at how generous the local community has been and we cannot thank them enough."
