REHEARSALS are off to a flying start for this year's Peebles pantomime.

The Tweed Theatre group are currently working their magic on 'Aladdin', which hopes to bring a dash of fun to the Eastgate Theatre when the production takes to the stage in a month's time.

The story follows Aladdin, a poor young man who lives with his mother, Widow Twanky and dreams of being rich and marrying Princess Jasmine. However, the evil Abanazar threatens to put a spanner in the works.

The cast of 40 involves local dancers and villagers between the ages of 10 to 55, who will be singing and dancing to songs such as 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams and 'Single Ladies' by Beyonce.

Katherine Mathison from the Tweed Theatre Group told the Peeblesshire News: "Rehearsals are going amazingly well for the Tweed Theatre Christmas Pantomime, Aladdin. We have had a great time so far, with lots of singing, dancing and laughs too.

"Our dancers are working hard on some of the very tricky dances, and mastering some popular songs. We hope the selection of music will have everyone dancing in the aisles.

"We are also including some special effects, with flashes, smoke, fireworks and of course a flying carpet. Plus we have a production team of 15 looking at costumes, set, props, lighting, sound and effects.

"Our costume check for Aladdin took place on Saturday (October 21), and there are some amazing costumes. Everyone is getting more excited as the first show draws ever closer.

"It's looking to be a spectacular show - tickets are selling really quickly so if you want a specific date or seat, please book early to avoid disappointment."

The show is on at the Eastgate Theatre from Thursday, November 30 to Saturday, December 2 with performances at 7.30pm.

Matinees will be held on Friday and Saturday, December 1 and 2 at 3pm.

Tickets are £10 for adults, £8 for OAP's and students and £6 for children and are available to buy at the Eastgate Theatre, or by calling 01721 725777.
