FOODIES across Tweeddale have the opportunity to tuck in to a food swap shop this weekend.

Residents are encouraged to bring their favourite homemade dishes, bakes, sweets, preserves, or any seeds to exchange at the event, organised by Tweeddale Food Community.

The event will kick off at 4pm on Sunday in the polytunnel at Whitmuir Community Farm in Lanancha.

Attendees will have the chance of a tour of the project, which showcases the growing, composting, and cooking activities that the farm has been undertaking in the last year.

Then, between 5pm and 6.30pm, the food community and team from the farm will gather at the Whitmuir Organics Cafe to host the swap shop.

Locals can bring homemade food, such as breads, soup and cakes to exchange, and are encouraged to bring along containers to take home any food swapped with others.

The swap shop was organised by Adam Skelton from the Tweeddale Food Community following the success of the groups’ first event, held at Peebles Drill Hall last August.

He told the Peeblesshire News: “This is a great chance for people to show off their cooking skills, chat about food, swap recipes, and get to know other foodies.

“Whitmuir Community Farm is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. This will be an informal and fun event from which everyone will hopefully come home with lots of ideas, inspiration and yummy food.

“Don’t worry if you haven’t got anything to swap, if you fancy coming along to say hello, please do.

He added: “Please bring containers to take your items home with you. We are not permitted to have homemade food consumed in the cafe.

“You should bring your food divided into small portions so that lots of people can sample it. Please also bring a printed list of ingredients to accompany your food in the interest of other swappers with dietary requirements.”
