PUPILS from Broughton Primary School have been crowned the winners in a battle of the breakfasts competition.
P4 to P7 classes from the school entered the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) farm house breakfast competition earlier this year.
The pupils were tasked to come up with a booklet of poems relating to healthy food choices and traditional breakfasts from food grown on Scottish farms.
After cooking up a wealth of ideas, their entries earned the classes a place in the finals.
Last Friday Primary 4/5 pupils Ben Mangen and Alfie King, Kyle Allison and Lottie Rees from P6/7 made the trip to Newton St Boswells to attend the prize giving ceremony, hosted by RHET Borders coordinator Lesley Mason.
And their long journey to the special event was worth it, when it was revealed that one of the entries from Broughton had won the overall prize.
A delighted headteacher Catriona McKinnon, of Broughton Primary School, told the Peeblesshire News: “Lottie and Kyle accepted the overall first on behalf of the P6 and 7 classes, they were thrilled that their booklet of a variety of poems had fulfilled the criteria and had won them the overall first.”
