Children at Peebles Swimming Pool have made a big splash for charity and raised £2,914 for Sport Relief.

The Borders Sport and Leisure-run pool encouraged all of its Swim Borders learners to participate in a series of sponsored swims.

Steven Watts, duty manager at Peebles Swimming Pool, said: “The children were really enthusiastic about the sponsored swim and have managed to raise an amazing amount of money for Sports Relief.

“As an added incentive we arranged some prizes for the highest earners, including a free pool party for the child and a spa visit for their parent very kindly sponsored by Stobo Castle.” Collecting the top prizes for their fundraising efforts were Josh Roberts, aged 10, who won a pool party and a half day visit to Stobo for his mum, Rachel; and Sam Lees, aged four, who won a free family swim pass and an Evening Escape to Stobo for her mum, Yvonne.

Mr Watts added: “I’d like to say a big thank you to the children, their parents and also Stobo Castle for the fabulous prizes. This is a great example of children having fun and also raising funds for others and shows the big hearts of the people in this town.”
