PEEBLES Piranhas junior rugby sections have accepted the British Heart Foundation bagathon challenge.

The young rugby players plan to recycle their old books, clothes, toys, DVDs and bric a brac to donate to their local shop. They hope to be able to help other young rugby players like ten-year- old Daniel Harris who bravely fought against heart disease and has now returned to school and the sportsfield.

There are over 40,000 children in the UK who are suffering from heart disease and this month BHF hope that the Bag It Beat It events will help thousands of other little heroes with congenital heart disease to be able to lead active lives.

Bag It Beat It was launched in Peebles when the BHF team dressed up as superheroes.

Shop manager Karen Smith said: “Please help us to support all our little superheroes this September by bringing your unwanted goods to your local BHF shop or alternatively phone 01721 723 751 to arrange a free collection.

I would like to thank the players at Peebles Rugby Club for their support and also the members of Peebles, Innerleithen and Walkerburn First Responders, and local businesses Ross Dougal Fish shop, Sainsbury’s Peebles and The Edinburgh Woolen Mill.” Further Bag It Beat It events will be held at The Edinburgh Woolen Mill on Saturday, September 13, and at Sainsbury’s in Peebles on Friday, September 19, when BHF volunteers will be on hand to provide further details and any donations would be gratefully received.
