ALEX Salmond and David Cameron may want to borrow a few tips from Duncan the Dog.

The Peebles pooch pulled in voters by the dozen during the final week to land the very first Peeblesshire News Pet Idol crown.

Duncan, an eight-year-old English Springer Spaniel, beat off strong competition from seven other dogs, a cat and even an iguana as votes flew through the door for our top ten shortlist.

Delighted owner Moira Pearson revealed a few secrets behind Duncan’s winning Pet Idol campaign. She said: “Duncan had his own Facebook page, dressed in a variety of outfits and in different places, including the World Cup and T in the Park.

“We had people from as far away as Australia and the US voting for him.

“As you can imagine, Duncan is absolutely thrilled. We will be throwing a party for him.” As well as the coveted title of Peeblesshire News Pet Idol champion, Duncan scoops the first prize of £300.

Moira added: “It’s been really good fun and Duncan is planning to donate a chunk of the cash to charity.”
