TWEED Valley Pétanque Club held a special fundraising day at their piste within Kailzie Gardens, Peebles, for Macmillan Cancer Support on Sunday, September 21.

There were a couple of friendly games and a couple of fun competitions where visitors from Melrose, Edinburgh and Spain were included followed by a raffle.

Having the new clubhouse meant the club members could supply cups of tea and coffee to everyone as well as a superb choice of cakes, home made jam and home baking.

When the raffle was finished it was time to show your skill at shooting a boule from a log. This proved very popular with Peter Hansen, a fairly new member of the club, managing to win the competition outright by shooting two boules from three off the log.

Next was trying to knock up to a maximum of six boules from a circle using three boules. This seemed to become highly addictive with people coming back again and again for one more try.

The competition was decisively won by Kenny Brown with a total of five boules knocked out. The runner up was Frances Donald who managed to knock out four boules and then win a tie break to take second prize.

All the members worked together to make a very successful day and the final total raised for Macmillan Cancer Support was £330.
