PEEBLESSHIRE Sub Aqua Club held their spring training weekend at Inveraray returning to Argyle Caravan Park on the shore of Loch Fyne.

The local dive sites here are good for basic training offering new divers the chance to develop their skills in shallow and safe water. There are other sites along Loch Fyne which offer the more experienced divers in the group a chance to enjoy more diverse diving if they are not involved in any of the training.

During the late spring and summer months the club’s interest turns to more local sites along the east coast ranging from North Berwick, south towards Eyemouth where there are many sites suitable for shore diving. The Farne Islands also offer great diving and is sometimes organised as a weekend trip. This year club members have managed dives at Dunbar, St Abbs and Eyemouth. East coast diving can be affected a great deal by the weather but after a slow start to the year members from the club have managed a series of Friday evening boat dives from St Abbs.

The area around St Abbs is a marine conservation area and offers excellent diving at all skill levels. Plans are made for a trip to the Isle of May and, as part of the club’s 20th anniversary next year, a holiday dive trip is being planned to Malta where there is a wide variety of scenic and wreck diving.

Malta has many tourist attractions where divers and non-divers can enjoy their holiday on this sun-soaked Mediterranean island.

Peeblesshire Sub Aqua Club are holding a Try A Dive session on October 1 at Peebles swimming pool between 9pm and 10pm where you can experience using scuba equipment in the safety of the pool.

If interested, you can come along and train towards a diving qualification. If you already have a qualification from another agency and are looking towards joining a club, come along and speak to use about crossing over your qualification.
