Christine Grahame, MSP for Midlothian South, Tweeddale & Lauderdale, is seeking the views of her constituents as to which powers should be devolved from Westminster to the Scottish Parliament.

Lord Smith of Kelvin has agreed to oversee the process of taking forward the commitments made by the UK parties to devolve substantial further powers to the Scottish Parliament in light of the 45 % Yes and 55% No vote in the referendum on 18 September. As part of that process, the Smith Commission is seeking the views of the public – and local MSP Christine Grahame wants to encourage all her constituents to have their say by completing her survey.

Launching her survey, Christine said: “Days before the referendum, Gordon Brown promised Scotland something ‘close to federalism’. The Vow signed by all three UK party leaders promised ‘better, faster, safer’ change than independence if Scotland voted No. And even David Cameron said that ‘all the options of devolution are possible’. It’s time for these politicians to keep their promises and deliver for Scotland.

“The Scottish Parliament has dealt with domestic issues such as housing and health but I want to know what additional powers my constituents think should now be devolved to Scotland and I encourage people to complete my survey either online, which is easier and faster, or by completing the survey and returning it to me Freepost by Friday 24 October. I will then deliver these responses to the Smith Commission in time for Lord Smith’s deadline of 31 October.” The survey can be completed online at www.christinegrahame.com, on Christine’s Facebook page, or by completing the survey form which will be delivered to households next week. Responses must be with Christine by 4pm on Friday 24 October.
