PEEBLES High school has announced it will host a careers event next month - and they have appealed to the local community to offer their skills and knowledge.
The event, planned for the evening of Tuesday, November 18, is open to students in S3/4/5 and 6. These students are at the stage of looking at their subject choices, thinking about their senior phase examinations, applying to colleges/universities or looking for employment.
Would you be willing to share with a student, in an informal way, what you do for a living and your career experiences so far? Are you able to talk about how to run a small business eg plumbing, florist, running a shop, or being an electrician? You may be a graduate and your degree helped you achieve your goals. Every job large or small will open the minds of our young people to the world of possibilities.
Deputy rector Donna Moretta said: “Last year we held our inaugural careers event and the feedback from both students and volunteers was very positive. We want to build on this and offer even more opportunities for our students to speak to people to find out what the world of work is really like. We hope to provide our youngsters with as much insight and information as possible so that they can go on and make informed career choices and are hugely grateful for the support our local community has given us so far”.
So could it be you?
