PEEBLES Gutterbluids Society celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Over the years members of the society have spent hundred of hours carrying out a wide variety of projects to help maintain and improve local amenities in and around the Royal Burgh.

To mark the anniversary the society has produced a DVD of all the old minute books of the original Peebles Gutterbluid Club, which was in existence from 1823-1914.

The hand-written minutes provide a unique and fascinating glimpse into life in Peebles stretching from almost 200 years ago up until 100 years ago when the Great War began.

Copies of the DVD can be obtained from the society secretary Andrew Fraser at Lyndene, Damdale, Peebles, EH45 8DQ, telephone 722024.

All proceeds from the sale of the DVD will go into society funds and will be used to finance the various projects carried out at the society for the benefit of the local community.

An example of the type of project undertaken is the installation of the Christmas nativity scene tableau (all hand-made!) which graces the Parish Church steps each year during the festive season - a project that has now been carried out for 30 years!

The society is indebted to Mark Spalding for producing the DVD of the old minute books and to John Swanson of 'Peebles Beltane Video’ for providing the copies for sale.
