CLIMATE change campaigners in Peebles joined a World-wide vigil last week under the town’s Christmas tree to highlight important talks in Peru.

Tweedgreen members unfurled a banner to emphasise their support for the United Nations summit meeting which is the 10th session of signatories to the Kyoto Protocol.

Organiser and Peebles Community Council member Lesley Morrison said: “The summit in Lima was an important meeting paving the way for next year’s round of climate change talks in Paris.

“The aim is to keep the global rise in temperature below two degrees centigrade above which it might become irreversible.

“A lot of hard work still needs to be done particularly by our governments’s representatives who help to agree targets.”
