SHOP staff in Peebles are getting ready to paint the town red to raise money for a national heart charity - and help save lives.

A number of businesses have pledged their support for the Wear It, Beat It event on Friday, February 6, to celebrate National Heart Day.

It follows the success of ‘Ramp Up The Red’ last year with everyone encouraged to wear red for the heart themed day. Franco’s Italian Restaurant plan to create a heart-shaped pizza specially for the event, while Ross Dougal Fish Merchants is producing heart shaped fishcakes to be sold on the day. Hearty produce will also be available at The Mercat View and customers can also show their support by purchasing a Wear It, Beat It heart-shaped pin-badge, which will be available to purchase in the restaurant.

And the Cringletie House Hotel is also getting involved.

Children of Rosetta Playgroup are hosting a wear red to nursery day. They also plan to create heart-themed artwork which will be on display in the British Heart Foundation’s shop window in Peebles during National Heart month.

Charity shop manager Karen Cameron said: “We had an overwhelming response to last year’s fundraiser and are very grateful to all those who supported the event and plan to take part in Wear It, Beat It on February 6.

“I would also like to thank Tesco who are working in partnership with BHF this year and the Sainsbury’s store in Peebles who are supporting the event.” Pauline Young, Tesco’s Community Champion, added: “Tesco are delighted to be working in partnership with The British Heart Foundation to support the charity’s valuable life saving work.” Further Wear It.
