FOR the senior citizens of Peeblesshire, it is one of the most eagerly-awaited events in their social calendar.
The long-standing Old Folks’ Treat once again proved to be a big hit as more than 80 party-goers dressed in their finery attended the function at the Peebles Hydro on Thursday, January 22.
“It was just such a delight to see everyone enjoying themselves so much,” said Douglas Wright, the convener of the Old Folks’ Treat committee.
“One lady said to me that it’s one of the few events she can come to where she can dress up. They were all obviously appreciative of the occasion and that was so nice to see.
“Our numbers were a little down but that might partly have been because on the day the tickets were issued the weather wasn’t very good.
“It was still a very good turn out but I would like to get the numbers up a little. In the old days when a local bus company provided free transport we used to get 250.”
