CRAIGERNE Lane has emerged as the preferred location for a full-sized synthetic 3G pitch in Peebles.

The site next to the High School is being considered after the parks beside the Gytes Leisure Centre were ruled out due to concerns about the potential impact of flooding in the area.

Scottish Borders Council is showcasing the plans at an exhibition in Peebles High School Sports Centre today (Friday, February 6) between 3pm and 7pm.

Sports clubs, community groups, school pupils, staff, parents, local residents, and governing bodies are being urged to attend to give their views.

Following the exhibition, all comments will be taken into consideration. The design of the new facility will then be finalised and discussed at a future community event. Finally, a planning application would be submitted.

Councillor Vicky Davidson, executive member for sport, culture, youth and communities at Scottish Borders Council, said: “We’re committed to delivering a 3G pitch for the community in Peebles and sportscotland has also guaranteed matched funding.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to start work on site this year and it is important that we take all views on board. The Craigerne site gives easy access for the High School and allows us to use the existing changing provision.”
