A QUIZMASTER is asking Borderers to back his bid to become an MP at the General Election in May.

Jody Jamieson, from Peebles, is the Scottish Green Party candidate for the Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale consistuency.

Mr Jamieson’s party launched their campaign for the seat currently held by Scotland’s only Conservative MP David Mundell in Peebles last weekend.

The co-convener of the Scottish Greens, MSP Patrick Harvie, said: “After the surge in Green membership in recent months I’m delighted that we are standing in a record number of seats this May.

“I look forward to campaigning across the Borders region with Jody and presenting our Green vision of stronger communities and sustainable jobs.” Mr Jamieson, 30, has set out the case for a Green vote in the General Election.

“Westminster politicians tell us there is no alternative to austerity. I am proud to stand on a platform opposing austerity and poverty," he said.

"Recent events in Greece and Spain show how much people across Europe are crying out for a change, away from cuts and towards investment in public services.

“Vital public services are just that – vital – and we need political parties like the Greens who are determined to protect them.

“I would like to thank the Green members in the constituency of Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale for selecting me, and I hope to do them proud.” Mr Jamieson is a self-employed quizmaster working in Edinburgh and Peebles. He was active during the Yes Scotland campaign, and more recently, campaigned with the People’s NHS, a group set up to ensure the NHS is exempt from the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, a free trade agreement being negotiated between the US and the European Union.
