PEEBLESSHIRE health spa Stobo Castle has helped Scotland’s leading racecourse smash its attendance record.

And they rounded off a day to remember by extending its initial two year sponsorship until at least 2018.

Musselburgh racecourse experienced a modern day attendance record when 10,000 glamorous racegoers enjoyed a spectacular day of horse racing and high fashion.

Ladies' Day was established 11 years ago and has developed into one of Scotland’s most popular race days with tickets selling out months in advance.

A combination of catwalk fashions and Scotland’s richest sprint race – the five furlong £100,000 William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup – have proved a winner year on year.

Musselburgh racecourse commercial manager, Sarah Montgomery, hailed the extended sponsorship deal with Stobo Castle as an important step in building on the success of Ladies' Day.

She said: “Stobo Castle is the ideal partner for Ladies' Day and we are delighted that we can build on the strong partnership which has been built up since Stobo first came on board at Ladies' Day in 2013.

“Like Stobo, we set extremely high standards in all our operations and like them we are continually investing in our infrastructure and our people to ensure visitors throughout the year enjoy the very best experience and have a day to remember.” The 2016 Stobo Castle Ladies' Day will take place on Saturday, June 11 and tickets are now on sale.

Stobo Castle managing director, Stephen Winyard, said matching his luxury destination with Scotland’s premier raceday offered mutual benefits to both organisations.

Mr Winyard added: “Stobo Castle Ladies' Day is without doubt a must-not-miss diary date for thousands of fashion conscious ladies and we are delighted to confirm we will maintain our presence and increase our support of Ladies' Day at Musselburgh for the next three years.

“There is a significant cross-over between the two venues because many Ladies' Day regulars are frequent guests at Stobo and both luxury brands benefit from working closely together. We look forward to supporting Bill Farnsworth, Sarah Montgomery and their dedicated team to ensure Stobo Castle Ladies' Day remains the summer social highlight at which everyone wants to be seen.”
