New charges at three car parks in Peebles will come into force on Saturday.

At Edinburgh Road car park, the revised parking charges for Saturday only will see motorists pay 20 pence for the first two hours.

Meanwhile, at the Greenside and Swimming Pool car parks, the first four hours of a stay between Monday and Saturday will also now have a 20p charge.

The changes are being made after a decision at Tweeddale Area Forum in May, which followed recommendations made by the Tweeddale Area Forum Parking Sub-Group.

The sub-group was set up to review changes made last year to charges in the three car parks.

Councillor Gordon Edgar, Scottish Borders Council’s Executive Member for Roads and Infrastructure, said: “The introduction of a nominal 20p charge at these car parks has been made to avoid confusion and will ensure motorists understand that a ticket has to be displayed during charging periods.” Edinburgh Road Car Park (Saturday only, 8.30am to 5.30pm) Existing Charges New Charges Up to 2 hours free Up to 2 hours 20p Up to 3 hours 90p Up to 3 hours 90p Up to 4 hours £1.20 Up to 4 hours £1.20 Up to 5 hours £1.60 Up to 5 hours £1.60 Up to 6 hours £1.80 Up to 6 hours £1.80 Up to 7 hours £2.20 Up to 7 hours £2.20 Up to 8 hours £2.40 Up to 8 hours £2.40 Over 8 hours £2.80 Over 8 hours £2.80 Greenside and Swimming Pool car parks (Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 5.30pm) Existing Charges New Charges Up to 4 hours free Up to 4 hours 20p Up to 5 hours £1.60 Up to 5 hours £1.60 Up to 6 hours £1.80 Up to 6 hours £1.80 Up to 7 hours £2.20 Up to 7 hours £2.20 Up to 8 hours £2.40 Up to 8 hours £2.40 Over 8 hours £2.80 Over 8 hours £2.80 Penalty charges will remain unchanged at £40 (£20 if paid within 10 days)
