BEER drinkers are in for a treat at the Peebles Hydro if the hotel bosses get their way.

Plans have been put forward to set up a micro brewery in a storage building on the historic property.

Managers hope a local supplier will step in to brew ale that will be available to their patrons just a few yards away.

“We are always exploring ways to improve the guest experience and it would be fantastic if we could do something like this connected with the local area,” said Hydro marketing manager Sarah Nicholson.

“The idea would be for us to work with a local brewery - it would be their own beer that we could supply to our customers.

“We are really excited about this but we don’t want to build people’s hopes up too much as we don’t know yet whether the council will agree to this change of use.” The application for the change of use of a workshop and alterations to form a micro brewery was received by Scottish Borders Council on July 25.
