SHE has won her own battle against cancer - and now she is celebrating raising a five-figure sum for charity.

Linda Dick and her family have already amassed more than £31,000 - with more to come.

The majority of the cash came from a stockjudging event and auction at the family’s Hamildean Farm in Peebles.

“I can’t believe how well it went - it is a great credit to our community that such a huge sum has been raised,” said Linda.

The 55-year-old and her family were determined to do their bit for charity after her successful treatment for breast cancer.

After being diagnosed in October 2013, Linda underwent undergo chemotherapy followed by surgery and radiotherapy at The Western General Hospital, Edinburgh and Borders General Hospital.

“I was one of the lucky ones and my treatment was successful,” she said. “Nonetheless this was a very difficult and stressful time for myself and my family.

“In our experience the little extra comforts provided by charity and volunteers made a huge difference to me and my family, for example - plants, newspapers, tea, coffee and biscuits and even tissues - helped make it all a bit easier.

“I was also lucky enough to receive charity funded aromatherapy during each chemotherapy session which was a great comfort when sitting in my own private hell having noxious chemicals pumped into my veins.

“As a result of our experience we, as a family, decided to do something to raise money to help other cancer patients in the future.” The charity stockjudging and auction was held on Tuesday, August 4 and proved to be a great success.

“We would like to thank all the people who helped make it such an amazing success, including the Peeblesshire JAC (Junior Agriculural Club) who did such an excellent job of running the stockjudging and getting such a lot of scoring done very quickly.

“The money is not all in yet, but the figure is over £31,000 – and that’s just phenomenal.” The money will be divided between FACE (Fighting Against Cancer Edinburgh) and Fund 30 at the Borders General Hospital.

FACE at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh will spend the money on patient comfort, providing all the little things which help to alleviate such a stressful time.

At Borders General Hospital, Fund 30 is involved with the expansion of the Macmillan Centre with the aim being to provide extra chairs for chemotherapy patients.
