FLATS and an office unit are to be created at a garage site in Peebles.
Tweeddale Area Committee has approved plans to redevelop Dean Park Garage and adjacent property at the corner of Dean Park and Northgate.
The proposals by Bruce Skirving Properties involve demolition of the existing building to allow the creation of a retail/office unit and car parking on the ground floor, with eight flats on the upper floor.
Councillor Catriona Bhatia voiced support for the scheme.
She said: 'I think this will be very welcome and will add interest to the Conservation Area.'
Councillor Neil Calvert pointed out that the provision of a retail/office unit would boost economic development in the area.
The committee chairman, Councillor Graham Garvie, was pleased to see new build on the site.
He said: 'What"s going there is so much better than what is there at the moment.'
Following a suggestion from Councillor Bhatia, the committee agreed that the development should include the provision of cycle racks.
