CARDRONA will finally have a playpark.
The village has been without any children"s facilities since being built in the late 1990s.
Parents have been making eight-mile round-trips to give their children some time on the swings.
But a fundraising campaign by the parkless parents has now reached its target.
And bored youngsters should be swinging, climbing and sliding by the end of the summer.
Brian McCrow, from Cardrona"s playpark campaign group, welcomed this week"s decision by Scottish Borders Council"s ruling executive to allocate over £20,000 to the park project. He told the Peeblesshire News: 'All of us in the campaign group are delighted with this news.
'The plans are already made up so all we need to do is finalise the contracts and work could get started before the summer.
'This is a well-needed facility as there"s not much, if anything, in Cardrona for kids at present.'
Cardrona parents had already raised £48,350 prior to this week"s decision.
And the extra £21,500 of Landfill Communities funding granted this week takes them within a whisker of the target total.
A further £4,053 has still to be granted from Tweeddale Area Committee before work can start.
Local councillor Graham Garvie said: 'There are well over 300 houses in Cardrona and at the time of work starting on the village there was an omission by the planning department to secure playpark facilities from the developers.
'This has been a big issue in Peebles but I am delighted it will finally be resolved.'
A toddler play are will be created for one-to-five year-olds and a junior area with swings, slides and multi-play equipment will also be provided within a fenced-off area.
The new facilities will also include a mini sports pitch with multi-goal equipment.
Jean Robertson, funding officer with the council, recommended executive members to support the plans. She said: 'This community group have raised almost £50,000 towards the project.
'We found that the Landfill Community Fund was available for further money.'
