HAWICK"S Mosspaul ride-out heralded the start of the Borders festivals last weekend.
Hawick is the first of many to celebrate the ancient custom of riding the boundaries and Peebles was ably represented by Cornet Colin Noble, Cornet-Elect Gareth Harrison and Ex-Cornets Allan Mackenzie and Russell Copeland.
The Cornet and his supporters completed the 24-mile ride to Mosspaul and back last Saturday.
Mosspaul is an ancient coaching inn midway between Hawick and Langholm on the main A7 road.
The cavalcade of 'Mosstroopers" set off from Hawick at 11.30am, arriving at Mosspaul at 3pm.
They then stopped for two hours as speeches were made and songs were sung, before eventually arriving back in Hawick at 8pm.
Cornet-Elect Gareth Harrison said: 'This was the real start of the festivals and it was great fun. It"s made me look forward to the Beltane even more now.
'It"s a a hell of a slog on the horse because you"re basically cantering for the entire 24 miles.
'My horsemanship is coming along leaps and bounds, though, and I"m getting better all the time.
'I felt it in my legs the next day at the Homecoming Family Walk in Peebles. I wished I was still on my horse as I trudged up Morning Hill!'
